## Frequently Asked Questions

### Can I stack these programs on the same project?

Often, but each program sets its own rule. AMIC cannot be stacked with other provincial programs; the RTRI caps non-repayable support at $3 million per business; federal SR&ED can be claimed alongside Québec's CRIC. Check each guide before you budget.

### What is the SR&ED 18-month filing rule?

The reporting deadline is 12 months after the T2 filing due date, generally 18 months after year-end, and CRA cannot by law extend it. June 30, 2025 year-ends file by December 31, 2026; July 31, 2025 by January 31, 2027.

### What if I missed a deadline in this list?

Ontario AMIC reopens January 28 to April 27, 2027. SSHRC Partnership Engage ran four cycles in 2026 but 2027 dates are not yet posted, nor are Canada Summer Jobs 2027 or CanExport SMEs. The RTRI and NRC IRAP take applications at any time.

### How do the regional development agencies differ?

Seven agencies deliver the same federal programs but set their own intakes. On October 13, 2026, PrairiesCan was taking RAII applications to December 31, 2029 while FedDev Ontario's RAII and PacifiCan's BSP and RAII were closed. Apply to your region's agency.

### Do training grant caps reset on April 1, 2027?

Yes. The B.C. ETG allows $300,000 per employer per fiscal year and CAPG $100,000 per employer at $5,000 per trainee. January to March 2027 training draws on the 2026/27 allocation; a new allocation starts April 1, 2027.

### Is CanExport SMEs coming back?

The 2026-27 intake closed August 31, 2026, and future intake periods will be posted on the program page when available. The 2026-27 minimums were 3 full-time employees and $300,000 revenue, targeting the U.S. or other markets but not both.

### Does my company apply directly for SSHRC Partnership Engage or NSERC Alliance Advantage?

No. The academic researcher applies and your business is the partner. Partnership Engage pays $10,000 to $50,000 over one year (deadline December 15, 2026); Alliance Advantage needs partner cash, NSERC pays 66.7% of direct costs, and it has no deadline.
